AI trading journal compared: what the AI in OneTradeJournal, TradeZella, TradesViz, TraderSync and five other journals actually does

An AI trading journal runs a language model or automated checks over the trades you have recorded, then answers your questions, flags habits or writes reviews. What it can tell you depends on two things: how your trades get in (broker import or typing them yourself) and which jobs the AI is given. We compared nine journals on their own websites on 13 October 2026, including OneTradeJournal, which publishes this page.

Facts checked 13 Oct 2026 against 27 sources. No affiliate links. Not investment advice.

What the AI in an AI trading journal actually does

Strip away the marketing and the AI in an AI trading journal does one or more of four jobs with your trade records:

    • Chat. You ask a question in plain English (“what is my win rate on expiry days?”) and it answers from your trades.
    • Automatic reviews. It scans your history on a schedule or on request and flags patterns, such as losses clustered at one time of day or bigger size after a loss.
    • Chart reading. You upload a screenshot and it describes the setup, entry and exit.
    • Data entry help. It tags trades for you, drafts notes or fills a form from your voice.

None of these jobs forecasts prices, and none can see a trade that never reached the journal. That second point is where journals split. Eight of the nine journals below can take trades from your broker by sync or file upload, so the AI sees every fill with its time and price. OneTradeJournal takes only trades you type in yourself. Its AI therefore sees only the trades you chose to log, while each one can carry your plan, stop, emotions and reason for entry.

Prices and caps vary as much as features. One journal includes a small AI allowance in its free plan, seven keep AI on paid plans or trials, and one well-known journal names no AI feature at all.

TJL Pro's FAQ and homepage disagree on the broker list and on yearly billing. Edgewonk's pricing page shows both $197 and $169. Journal by journal: what each AI is fed and what it returns

    OneTradeJournal (ours)

Trades are entered by hand on purpose: there is no broker sync and no CSV import. Paid plans add Ask Your Journal, a chat over the trades you have logged; AI analysis and pattern detection across that history; the AI Trading Mentor, which reads chart screenshots you upload; and voice fill, where you describe a trade aloud and the AI fills the form for you to check. The free plan lets you log one trade a day per market with no end date, and it has no AI. Paid India plans cost ₹499 a month, ₹1,299 a quarter or ₹3,499 a year. The AI can be wrong, and it knows only what you logged.

    TradeZella (Zella AI)

Zella AI works on trades brought in through TradeZella's integrations (its pricing page says 500+ broker and prop-firm connections), file uploads or manual entry, along with your notes, rules and screenshots. Its page describes a chat, session reviews that score how closely you followed your plan, auto-tagging, alerts for revenge trading and oversizing, and pre-session sentiment briefings. The Zella AI page says it is “included with every TradeZella plan”, while the pricing page gives Essential ($35 a month) 500 AI credits and no Zella Agents, the part that auto-tags and reviews every imported trade. More detail is in our OneTradeJournal vs TradeZella comparison.

    TradesViz

TradesViz names seven AI tools: AI Coach, AI Query (type a question, get a chart and table), AI Chat, AI Notes, AI Summary and an AI Daily Brief, plus AI Widgets that save answers to a dashboard. Trades come from imports, and its India page names Zerodha, Upstox, Angel One, Groww, Dhan, FYERS and others. TradesViz says its performance numbers are “computed in code from your broker fills” and the model writes the words, and that AI Chat, AI Summary and AI Notes send the needed trade data to OpenAI or Google models only after you turn on a consent setting. Paid plans can also connect ChatGPT, Claude or a similar assistant to your journal through a hosted MCP server. The free Basic plan lists no AI. See OneTradeJournal vs TradesViz.

    TraderSync (Cypher)

TraderSync describes Cypher as a team of AI roles covering performance, strategy, planning and risk, pattern detection, accountability and trade review against your plan, and it says Cypher Coach “proactively monitors your trades”. Trades arrive by auto-sync, file upload or manual entry. Each paid plan has a daily message cap, from 5 on Pro to 60 on Elite. Its help centre is unusually direct about how much data the AI needs, quoted below. Our OneTradeJournal vs TraderSync page covers the rest of the product.

    Edgewonk (Edge Finder)

Edge Finder is an automated scan of your whole journal every Sunday. It reports win rate, your most profitable times, the cost of rule breaks (which Edgewonk calls the “Total Edge Leak”), discipline and reward to risk. We found no chat feature on the pages we opened. Edgewonk says it only accesses your journal if you explicitly ask it to.

    Tradervue

Tradervue is here as a baseline. It is a long-running journal whose homepage and pricing page, opened on 13 October 2026, name no AI feature. It offers more than 100 advanced reports, MFE/MAE statistics and mentor sharing, and its free plan imports 30 trades a calendar month.

    TJL Pro

An Indian journal for NSE and BSE traders. Its FAQ says the paid AI Coach reads your journal entries, setups, mistakes and notes and gives written feedback, runs on Claude, and “focuses on your actual trading behaviour, not market predictions”. The ₹300 price is shown as a new-user sale with code FIRST40, under a banner that still said “Till 11 August” on 13 October, with ₹500 struck through and a note that the price is “rising to ₹500 soon”. Check the current price before paying.

    TradeX

TradeX invites you to “Chat with an AI that has read every journal entry.” It is the only journal of the nine whose free plan lists AI, at 20 coach messages a month. Its homepage says journal data is never used to train AI models.

    NiyataBook

NiyataBook calls itself “Live for Zerodha” and counts AI in monthly “AI insights”. Its Fair plan charges ₹49 only on days your net P&L is positive. The pricing page does not describe what one AI insight contains.

“Trying to extract patterns from such a small number of trades would likely result in false positives — misleading suggestions that appear valid but are actually based on random noise.”
TraderSync help centre, “What do I need for Cypher (AI) to determine my trading patterns?”, which says pattern models typically need at least a few hundred trades

What AI in a trading journal can't do

The limits below apply to every journal in the grid, ours included.

It can't see trades that never reached the journal. With broker import, missed trades are rare. With hand logging, the AI is only as complete as your habit. If you log the good days and skip the bad ones, the AI will describe a better trader than you are.

It can't know what you felt unless someone wrote it down. A broker file records time, price and quantity. It has no field for fear, boredom or a rule you broke on purpose. TradeZella's own guide to AI journals accepts this, saying the AI cannot know what you were thinking during a trade, and it still recommends short personal notes.

It can't predict the market. Every feature in the grid looks backwards at your own records. A review that finds you lose money after 2:30 PM tells you about your past behaviour, not about tomorrow's prices. For the wider question, see can AI predict the stock market.

It can get numbers wrong. Language models can produce figures that look right and are not. TradesViz puts it plainly: “Any output generated by a language model can be wrong, and none of it is financial advice.” That is why it says it calculates P&L and other metrics in code and lets the model only describe them. Whatever journal you use, check any rupee figure the AI quotes against your own trade list or contract note.

It can mislead on a small sample. TraderSync says pattern detection typically needs at least a few hundred trades. TradesViz hides an AI Coach check when fewer than 10 trades are in scope. Ten trades can show a pattern that is pure chance.

Questions an AI journal can answer, by how your trades got in

Our reasoning about what each kind of record contains, applied to typical review questions. Illustrative, not a test of any product.

Question you ask the AIWhat the AI needsFrom broker import aloneFrom hand-logged trades
What is my win rate on expiry days?Trade dates and P&L for every tradeYes, completeYes, if you logged every trade
Do I size up after a loss?Trade order, quantity and P&LYesYes, if no trades were skipped
Did I follow my plan on this trade?Stop, target and rules written before the tradeOnly if you add the plan afterwardsYes, if you filled the plan fields
Do I trade worse when anxious?Your mood, recorded at the timeNo; broker files hold no feelingsYes, if you noted it
Why did I exit early?Your stated reasonNoOnly if you wrote it down
Did charges eat my profit?Brokerage and statutory charges per tradeIf the file or fee settings include themIf the journal estimates them; estimates are not contract notes
Where will Nifty close tomorrow?Future pricesNo journal has thisNo journal has this

Our own analysis, 13 Oct 2026. The broker-file point follows TradeZella's guide, which says the AI cannot know what you were thinking; the fee point follows TradesViz, which says missing commission data can come from account fee profiles; OneTradeJournal's charge figures are estimates.

Imported fills or hand-logged trades: the trade-off for the AI

Import is the stronger choice for completeness and effort. If you take 30 option scalps a day, typing each one is unrealistic, and an AI fed every fill can find time-of-day and sizing patterns you would never spot by hand. TradesViz, TraderSync, TradeZella and Edgewonk all lean on this, and the Indian journals in the grid offer Zerodha files or connections. TradesViz's India page also mentions STT tracking and contract note import, which a hand-logged journal cannot match for accuracy.

Context depends on what gets written down, and when. The AI can only link a loss to anxiety, boredom or a skipped checklist if that was recorded at the time of the trade. Import journals also let you add tags, notes and emotions, and most in the grid accept manual entry too. Hand logging makes that note part of entering every trade. A note written at the moment records what you felt then; a note added days later records what you remember.

The cost of hand logging is coverage. OneTradeJournal shows P&L after estimated Indian brokerage and statutory charges, but those are estimates and your contract note remains the real record. Voice fill makes logging faster; it does not make the record complete if you skip trades.

Some traders mix both: an import journal for the numbers and a short written diary for the reasons. If you already keep notes in a spreadsheet, the AI trading prompts library shows how to ask a general chatbot review questions without asking it for tips.

How to judge any AI trading journal before you pay

    • Find out where the AI's trades come from

Sync, file upload or typing. Ask what happens to a trade you forget to log or a file that fails to import.

    • Check whether the numbers come from code or from the model

A journal that calculates P&L in code and lets the AI describe it is less likely to quote a wrong figure.

    • Look for a stated minimum number of trades

A journal that refuses to find patterns in 15 trades is being honest with you.

    • Convert the AI cap into your own use

5 messages a day and 500 credits a month are very different. If the cap is in credits, find out what one question costs.

    • See what the free plan or trial actually includes

Several journals keep all AI behind a paid plan. Note the price the trial turns into.

    • Read where your trade data is sent

Some send trade data to OpenAI, Google or Anthropic models; some say data is never used for training. Look for an opt-in setting.

    • Confirm it handles Indian F&O

Lot sizes, weekly expiries, rupee P&L and Indian charges. A journal built for US stocks may not group option legs the way your broker does.

    • Check it says the AI can be wrong

A product that admits mistakes is easier to trust than one that promises insight.

    • Make sure you can export your records

If you leave, your trades and notes should leave with you as a file.

    • Test it with a question you already know the answer to

Ask for your worst day last month. If the answer doesn't match your own records, stop there.

Where OneTradeJournal fits, and where others do more

OneTradeJournal suits a trader who wants the AI to read their reasons as well as their results, and who is willing to type each trade in. Ask Your Journal answers from those hand-logged trades, the AI Trading Mentor reads a screenshot you upload, and voice fill shortens the typing. All of that is paid, and the free plan has no AI.

Other journals do more in several areas. If you trade often and want every fill captured without typing, TradesViz, TraderSync, TradeZella, Edgewonk, TJL Pro, TradeX and NiyataBook all accept broker files or connections, and OneTradeJournal does not. TradesViz and Edgewonk run scheduled reviews on their own, and TraderSync's Cypher Coach sends feedback unprompted. TradeX gives a small AI allowance on its free plan. Weigh those against what you want the AI to read, and use the grid above as a starting point. For journals compared on more than AI, see our trading journal guide for India.

AI trading journal questions people search for

Is there a free AI trading journal?+

Of the nine we checked on 13 October 2026, only TradeX's free plan lists AI, at 20 coach messages a month. TradesViz Basic, TJL Pro's free plan and OneTradeJournal's free plan are free with no AI, and TradesViz and TraderSync offer 7-day trials of paid plans that include AI. Free allowances change often, so check the plan page.

Is there an AI trading journal app for Indian F&O traders?+

Yes, several. TJL Pro, TradeX and NiyataBook are Indian journals with AI features and rupee pricing. TradesViz has an India page covering NSE, BSE and F&O with Indian broker imports. OneTradeJournal is built for Indian F&O with hand logging and installs as a web app.

Can I use ChatGPT as an AI trading journal?+

You can paste or upload your own trade list and ask review questions. A general chatbot does not keep your trades between sessions unless you set that up, and it can misread a spreadsheet. Keep the records in a journal or file you control, and never ask the chatbot for tips.

How many trades does an AI journal need before its analysis means anything?+

TraderSync says its pattern detection typically needs at least a few hundred trades, and TradesViz hides AI Coach checks with fewer than 10 trades in scope. With only a few dozen logged trades, treat any pattern the AI finds as something to check by hand.

Does an AI trading journal see my broker account?+

It depends on how trades get in. Sync journals connect to your broker, often with an API key or login, and read your trades. File-import journals see only the file you upload. OneTradeJournal never connects to a broker; its AI sees only what you typed in.

Will an AI trading journal make me profitable?+

No journal can promise that, and none of the nine claims to predict markets. The AI can point out repeated mistakes faster than you might alone. Changing the behaviour is still your job.
