Perplexity Finance India: documented coverage and checks
Perplexity Finance covers Indian stocks. Its changelog of 14 August 2025 says all users get BSE and NSE prices, market news, explanations of price moves, historical downloads and company financials, and a changelog of 4 September 2025 says its stock screener now covers Indian markets. Perplexity's pages give no data delay, and we did not measure one or score its answers. This page sets out what Perplexity itself says and how to check what it tells you.

Indian-market coverage is documented; quote latency is unmeasured
Perplexity Finance India has a first-party launch record. Its changelog dated 14 August 2025 describes Indian data across desktop, mobile web and apps, including BSE/NSE equities. The date printed on that source is the announcement date we use; it does not prove the earliest day the service reached every account.
We checked the official sources on 14 October 2026. We did not obtain timed quote captures or run a scored set of model answers. No latency figure, citation success rate or hands-on performance verdict is claimed. The table below shows which features Perplexity documents and what remains unchecked.
A research explanation should be checked against the filing or event it cites. The AI tools map distinguishes research from execution and journal review.
Perplexity Finance India: the evidence ledger
Provider sources opened 14 October 2026. Launch descriptions are dated statements, not a test of current account entitlement or measured market-data performance.
| Item | What the source establishes | What is not established | Source ID |
|---|---|---|---|
| Indian-market coverage | India changelog describes BSE/NSE equities across desktop and mobile surfaces. | No measured delay or complete instrument-universe test. | india |
| Research material | News synthesis, movement explanations, historical downloads and company financials described. | No scored citation-quality or historical-download accuracy test. | india |
| Indian screening/alerts | India launch post (14 Aug 2025) listed natural-language screening and price alerts as coming soon. A changelog dated 4 Sep 2025 says the stock screener and earnings hub are now available for Indian markets. | No Perplexity page we found confirms Indian price alerts. Screener results not tested. | india / sept / alerts |
| General alert mechanism | July release describes Tasks-based alerts with email or push notification. | No current India account entitlement or notification delay measured. | alerts |
| Free versus Pro | Plan help: free Standard has practically unlimited basic searches, 3 Pro Searches a day and 1 Research query a month; Pro has weekly and monthly limits for "average use". | Pro limits are not given as numbers; the product FAQ calls Pro Search unlimited, so Perplexity's pages disagree. | plans / pro |
| Published global price | Product FAQ quotes Pro at $20/month or $200/year. | No current Indian rupee checkout, total tax or promotional entitlement verified. | hub |
Coverage and pricing are provider statements. This is a documentation ledger; it contains no fabricated scores from the planned ten-query benchmark.
Free research access and a free execution feed are different claims
The India announcement says all Perplexity users could access the described Indian-market data. Perplexity's current plan help lists a free Standard tier with practically unlimited basic searches, three Pro Searches a day and one Research query a month. Those statements do not establish an unrestricted data feed for trading software or a right to redistribute exchange data.
A displayed company page, a cited answer and a downloadable history are different outputs. Before relying on any of them, identify the security, period and source. A price presented alongside an explanation does not show that both were updated at the same moment.
The market-data delay guide explains the separate exchange and regulatory context. This review supplies no live-price demo or instructions for using a research screen as an execution feed.
Checks for a retrospective price-movement explanation
Does the answer identify the right company and period?
Compare the exchange, security and dates with the source. A similarly named company or a later news story does not answer the same question.
Does the citation support the sentence beside it?
Open the actual document. A relevant headline alone may not establish the numerical or causal statement in the answer.
Are filings separated from speculation?
Distinguish a company announcement from a model’s hypothesis about why market participants reacted.
Is the answer explicit about missing evidence?
An unresolved explanation is more useful than an invented reason presented as a fact. Keep that uncertainty in the research note.
Are later facts leaking into the explanation?
When studying a historical event, identify what was known at the time rather than allowing a later report to rewrite the context.
A citation can support an event without proving a cause
An official result announcement can establish that a company released results. It does not by itself establish that the results caused the entire price movement. An answer may combine a genuine filing, a news interpretation and a hypothesis; each deserves a different label.
For retrospective research, ask for the relevant primary announcement and a clear distinction between reported facts and possible explanations. Then read the source. If the answer cannot establish a cause, the research note should say that rather than converting a fluent paragraph into certainty.
This review does not include stock picks, targets or a present-day trade example. The aim is to make a historical explanation auditable. Research can help organise evidence without determining what a market will do next.
What free and Pro descriptions do, and do not, promise
Current Perplexity plan/help pages (plan page updated 8 Oct 2026) and product FAQ opened 14 October 2026. Published global prices shown in USD; no currency conversion or Indian tax calculation.
| Topic | Standard/free documentation | Pro documentation | Caveat |
|---|---|---|---|
| Search | Practically unlimited basic searches; 3 Pro Searches a day. | Pro Search under "weekly limits (average use)"; Pro help says "extended access". | Product FAQ says "unlimited Pro Search"; the plan page gives weekly limits with no number. The two pages disagree. |
| Files and research | Limited basic uploads; 1 Research query a month. | Increased upload limits (up to 50 files per project); Research under monthly limits (average use). | Check the actual mode and account limits; this is not an India Finance-only entitlement table. |
| Price | Standard tier described as free. | Global FAQ: $20/month or $200/year. | India checkout, currency, tax and promotions not verified. |
| India price alerts | Not stated on the plan pages. | Not stated on the plan pages. | The Aug 2025 India post said alerts were coming soon; the Sep 2025 changelog covers the screener and earnings hub, not alerts. |
No purchase recommendation. Where Perplexity's pages disagree (unlimited versus weekly limits), both wordings are shown.
A global feature announcement does not establish its Indian scope
Perplexity’s July 2025 release describes price alerts linked to Tasks, email and push notifications. Its India announcement a month later still listed Indian price alerts and natural-language screening as coming soon. A changelog dated 4 September 2025 then says the earnings hub and stock screener "are now both available for Indian markets". We found no Perplexity page saying the same for Indian price alerts, so reading only the July announcement would overstate what India has.
The July post also describes Morningstar research from US equity pages. That is not evidence of identical research coverage for NSE or BSE companies. We do not expand a US example into an India-wide capability claim.
To verify a current feature, check its present provider documentation and the actual account interface. A feature can be documented without its full regional or plan scope being settled by the pages inspected here. The separate AI stock-screener guide addresses screening workflows.
How a future hands-on audit should be recorded
- 1
Choose a historical case with a primary record
Use an event and price period older than thirty days for any public market example. Save the company or exchange document that anchors the question.
- 2
Save the exact question and response
Record the plan, mode, date and source links. Do not reconstruct the answer from memory after checking the result.
- 3
Grade distinct evidence checks
Assess identity, period, citation relevance and whether facts are separated from hypotheses. Mark an unsupported item as unsupported rather than inventing a numerical score.
- 4
Report the tests actually completed
A proposed ten-query audit is not ten observed answers. Publish a result count only when the saved responses and grading evidence exist.
What this review leaves unanswered
We have not measured quote delay, screening accuracy or notification timing. We have not verified a shipped broker connection or compared actual free and Pro accounts on the same research questions. Those fields remain unavailable; absence of a test is not evidence that a feature fails.
This is why the page is a documentation review with an audit procedure, not a claim that the planned benchmark was run. A future test should retain the exact answers and source checks so another reader can inspect how the verdict was reached. General impressions or screenshots without timestamps would not resolve the timing question.
The AI comparison guide treats broader research tasks separately. More sources or a paid plan do not remove the need to check whether a particular citation supports a particular answer.
Keep the research note distinct from the trading decision
A useful note contains the historical question, the documents checked, the supported facts and the remaining uncertainty. If a trade is later reviewed, keep that research alongside your own recorded reason rather than replacing the reason with a model’s later explanation.
OneTradeJournal records trades by hand and offers no signals or order execution. It has no broker connection or automatic trade import. This guide does not suggest that Perplexity can populate a journal account or turn its research into a trade instruction.
Use the provider’s current sources to revisit the product details as they change. The durable part of the workflow is the evidence trail: what was asked, what the source actually said, and which conclusion remained a hypothesis.
