    AI for traders

AI trading apps in India, sorted by what the AI actually does: research help, broker connectors and journal review

The AI trading apps in India that our guides cover each do one of four jobs: they help you research by reading what you give them, read your broker account, place orders through your broker, or review trades you have logged. Apps that promise fixed returns from an "AI bot" are not tools, so they are left off, and NSE says assured returns in the stock market are prohibited by law. This map sorts each tool by its job, using facts we checked on official pages on 13 October 2026.

Facts checked 13 Oct 2026 against 35 sources. No affiliate links. Not investment advice.

Four jobs an AI trading app can do

Ask one question of any AI trading app or AI trading platform in India: what does the AI get to see, and what is it allowed to do with it? The answer puts it in one of four groups.

    1. Research help. A general chatbot such as ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini explains ideas and reads documents you upload. It can't see your broker account.
    2. Account reading. Your broker's official MCP server (a plug-in that lets an AI app talk to your account) lets the chatbot look at holdings, positions and today's orders.
    3. Order placing. Some broker connectors go a step further and can place, modify or cancel real orders when you ask.
    4. Journal review. A trading journal's AI reads the trades you have recorded and answers questions about your own habits.

No group on this map is "AI that knows where Nifty goes next". Apps that sell that idea are not tools, so they are left off it.

AI that reviews your decisions, and AI that claims to predict

The line that matters most runs between AI that works on your own decisions and AI that says it knows what the market will do.

Review AI works on things already on record: your entry, your stop, the reason you wrote down, the rule you broke. You can check it, because you can open the trade and see whether the AI described it correctly. Two journal makers put this in writing: TradeZella says Zella "is not a signal service", and TJL Pro says its coach won't predict markets.

Prediction AI sells an answer nobody can check until the money is spent: which stock, which strike, what target. Three things from our sources apply here.

    • SEBI's Research Analysts Regulations list buy/sell/hold recommendations, price or stop-loss targets and trading calls as research services. Anyone offering them as a business for a fee needs SEBI registration.
    • NSE's investor cautions tell you not to subscribe to any scheme offering indicative, assured or "guaranteed" returns, "as the same is prohibited by law".
    • The chatbot makers warn about their own answers. OpenAI says ChatGPT "can produce incorrect or misleading outputs". Anthropic says not to rely on Claude as a singular source of truth. Google says not to treat Gemini responses as financial advice.

Review AI can be wrong too. TradesViz says any output from a language model can be wrong, and the same is true of ours. The difference is that you can check a review against your records. That is why none of our AI guides asks a chatbot for a pick, and why any market example on them uses prices at least 30 days old, the lag SEBI repeated for education content in its 17 August 2026 caution.

Five questions that sort any AI trading app

    • What does the AI actually see?

Your question, your broker account or your journal. If the answer is "the live market", ask how. OpenAI notes that ChatGPT's web results and citations can be incomplete, outdated or incorrect.

    • Can it send an order to your broker?

If yes, it is in the order-placing group. Find the broker's own page that says so and read which confirmation step it uses.

    • Who handles your login?

Zerodha says your credentials never pass through Claude, because you sign in through Kite's own two-factor login. 5paisa's setup works differently: you type API keys, TOTP secret and PIN into a file on your own computer. NSE advises never sharing your user ID or password with anyone.

    • Is the answer about your trades or about tomorrow?

A review can be checked against your records today. A forecast can be checked only after you have traded on it.

    • Does it promise a return?

Then it is off this map. Anything that promises returns is not a tool, so avoid it.

The four jobs in more detail

Research help: chatbots that work on what you give them

General chatbots are the free AI for the stock market most traders try first. They can explain a term using your own numbers, pull the risk section out of an annual report, or read a concall transcript, which SEBI's listing rules require companies to post on their website within five working days of the call. They see nothing you don't give them, and OpenAI says ChatGPT has a knowledge cutoff. Our AI trading prompts page has 40 prompts for this kind of work, each with what to check in the answer.

Account reading: broker connectors that only look

Zerodha launched Kite MCP on 20 May 2025. Zerodha says it is free and read-only except for GTT orders. Its hosted server still lists order tools among its 22 (our count on 13 October 2026); our Kite MCP guide explains why that list and Zerodha's article differ, and why you log in again each day. Upstox's MCP is free and read-only, and asks you to re-authorise once a day. FYERS and Kotak Neo also say theirs can't place orders. These connectors answer questions about what you hold and what you did today. They can't tell the AI why you bought anything.

Order placing: connectors that can act

Dhan, Groww and 5paisa each say on their own pages that their MCP server can place orders. Dhan's docs say its tools "place real orders on your live Dhan account", and its alerts can carry a linked order that fires when the alert triggers. Groww's August 2025 post calls its MCP "very early-stage tech" and needs DDPI for sell orders. 5paisa's runs in Claude Desktop on your own computer. Upstox handles orders through a separate Agent Skill, launched on 6 June 2026 for coding agents such as Claude Code and Codex. Compare them in Indian broker MCP servers before you connect anything that can trade. None of the broker pages we read says how SEBI's retail algo framework treats orders sent this way. That framework (circular SEBI/HO/MIRSD/MIRSD-PoD/P/CIR/2025/0000013 of 4 February 2025) covers orders "generated using automated execution logic", and a later circular of 30 September 2025 made it apply to all stock brokers from 1 April 2026.

Journal review: AI that reads your own record

A journal's AI is the only kind on this map built around your decisions. What it can say depends on what is in the journal. Imported fills give it prices and times. Notes you write give it reasons, emotions and broken rules. TradeZella's own guide concedes its AI can't know what you were thinking during a trade. Our AI trading journal comparison checks nine journals on what the AI is fed and what it returns.

Free AI software for the stock market in India: what costs nothing

Several tools on this map can be tried free, with limits. As each company stated them on 13 October 2026:

    • ChatGPT's Free plan allows 3 file uploads a day.
    • Claude's Free plan includes web search, which counts toward its usage limits, and one custom connector. Zerodha also warns that Claude's free plan can reach the conversation length limit quickly.
    • Zerodha and Upstox say their MCP servers are free, and Kotak Neo says its MCP comes at no additional cost. 5paisa says its MCP is free for existing customers.
    • Groww lists a Claude Pro subscription, or tools like Cursor, as what you need for its MCP.
    • Dhan's live quotes and option chains through MCP need its Data API, at ₹499 plus taxes a month.
    • Among journals, TradeX's free plan includes 20 AI coach messages a month. OneTradeJournal's free plan has no time limit but covers one trade a day per market, and its AI features are paid.

    OneTradeJournal on this map

We make OneTradeJournal, so weigh this part with that in mind. It belongs in the journal review group only. You log each trade by hand, with no broker sync and no import, so its AI knows only what you wrote: entry, exit, stop, emotions, the reason for the trade and any rule you broke. The paid AI features are Ask Your Journal, AI analysis and the AI Trading Mentor, which reads chart screenshots you upload. They can be wrong. It places no orders, gives no signals and is not registered with SEBI. India plans cost ₹499 a month, ₹1,299 a quarter or ₹3,499 a year. If you want an AI that reads your broker account for you, the connectors above or a journal that imports fills will do more of that.

Questions about AI trading apps in India

Which AI trading app should a beginner in India start with?+

We don't rank them, because they do different jobs. The research and review groups can't send an order, so trying them can't move money in your account. A chatbot can explain ideas with your own numbers, and a journal shows your own patterns once you have logged some trades. Connectors that can place orders act on real money, so read the safety checklist in our broker MCP guide before connecting one. Skip anything that promises a return.

Can an AI app trade for me in India?+

Some broker connectors can place orders when you ask in a chat. Dhan, Groww and 5paisa say their MCP servers can, and so can Upstox's Agent Skill, which runs in coding agents such as Claude Code. Dhan's alerts can also carry a linked order that fires on its own. An app that promises to trade for you and deliver a set return matches what NSE calls prohibited: assured returns.

Can ChatGPT or another AI predict the stock market?+

Their makers' help pages point the other way. OpenAI says ChatGPT can produce incorrect or misleading outputs and has a knowledge cutoff, Anthropic says Claude may not have up-to-date information, and Google says not to rely on Gemini for financial advice. Our guides don't test or publish predictions.

    Is Zerodha's Kite MCP free?+

Yes. Zerodha's launch post of 20 May 2025 says Kite MCP is free and read-only except for GTT orders, and you don't need your own API key for the hosted server. Our Kite MCP guide covers setup and the daily login.
