Best options backtesting software in India: compare tools
Choosing the best options backtesting software in India starts with four checks: price data, cost settings, past contracts and access limits. This guide compares documentation for AlgoTest, Stockmock, public Opstra, OPTEST, Tradetron and Streak. We did not run a strategy on these tools and do not rank their accuracy, speed or returns.

Match the options testing tool to the job you want to test
A backtest applies written trading rules to past prices. A rule for trades opened and closed within one day needs a tool that can express its entry, exit and option selection at the required time. A rule held across several days can have different needs. An option payoff chart, a test on past prices and a scanner for a share or index are different products. Check the specific tool before comparing subscription names or a headline return.
The criteria here are price detail, costs and slippage [difference from expected trade price], past lot sizes and expiry dates, and access price. Each row states what the provider's sources establish. Unknown means we could not verify that detail; it does not mean the tool lacks the feature. No overall score is calculated, no account was purchased and no historical strategy result is presented as our test output.
For instructions on designing a test, use backtesting strategies. This page helps you choose software by what it documents.
Three ways the tools use price data
- Public Opstra's documented options backtesting
- EOD
- End-of-day prices in the public feature description. This description applies to public Opstra.
Source: [7]
- Stockmock's stated source bars
- 1-minute OHLC
- OHLC means open, high, low and close prices within a minute. The terms do not settle the order of price movements inside that minute.

- AlgoTest's documented condition handling
- High/low and close
- One-minute prices; conditions for an individual option position and for the whole strategy can use different prices.

Documented testing features, with unknowns shown
Primary sources checked 14 October 2026. Provider descriptions; no independent product test performed.
| Tool / product | Price detail and history | Costs and slippage | Past lot sizes and expiry dates |
|---|---|---|---|
| AlgoTest time-based builder | One-minute OHLC; some conditions use high/low prices and others use the minute close. Exact history dates for each contract not established here. | Guide documents slippage, brokerage and applicable taxes; whether rates change with each historical date is unknown. | Handling of past lot changes and ended expiries unknown in these sources. |
| Stockmock backtester | Terms state one-minute OHLC. Free credits limited to latest month; exact paid history dates for each instrument unknown. | Backtest page documents slippage, brokerage and taxes. Whether rates change with each historical date is unknown. | Terms describe same-week/month contracts; later contract availability and past lot changes need confirmation. |
| Public Opstra options backtesting | EOD. Feature description says five years starting in 2014; current end date not established. | Separate slippage and dated trading-charge settings not established from pricing description. | Past lot and expiry changes unknown; other analysis features do not establish them. |
| OPTEST public product | Custom-backtest description states one-minute data; pricing describes five-plus years, with start dates for each instrument unknown. | Published settings include slippage percentage and brokerage input. Full dated trading-charge schedule unknown. | Expiry and lot-quantity settings are present; handling of past lot and expiry changes unknown. |
| Tradetron FastBT | Provider describes one-minute data. Available dates for your chosen instrument still need checking. | Cost settings include brokerage, slippage and required trading charges; no independent rate check performed. | Provider says its Nifty/Bank Nifty data audit uses dated lot sizes and removes invalid expiries. We have not reproduced this check. |
| Streak | Backtests on past prices documented; exact options-testing price detail and history not established here. | Risk disclosure excludes slippage, delays, difficulty trading at the required price or size, and rejected orders. | Past option selection, lot changes and expiry handling unknown in sources checked. |
Rows: AlgoTest: algo-monitor and algo-master; Stockmock: stock-terms and stock-backtest; public Opstra: opstra; OPTEST: optest; Tradetron: tt-backtest and tt-fastbt; Streak: streak-disclosure. Tradetron describes its own data checks; OneTradeJournal has not repeated them.
Read condition timing before comparing two reports
AlgoTest's trade-monitoring documentation gives a concrete distinction: some individual option stop, target and trailing-stop conditions use the high and low prices within one minute. Other features, including conditions for the whole strategy, are checked at the minute close. Saying that the platform uses one-minute data is therefore incomplete without the particular condition's timing.
Stockmock's terms establish one-minute OHLC input. Its backtest page documents slippage and cost settings, but those pages do not settle the order in which every condition is checked. OPTEST similarly lets you enter a slippage percentage and brokerage value. An input box does not establish the price used when a stop is hit, or whether trading taxes and fees change automatically with past dates.
Tradetron describes FastBT and says it uses lot sizes that applied on past trade dates. We report its description without adopting its speed, accuracy or superiority claims. Streak's risk disclosure gives an explicit limitation: its simulated results exclude slippage, delays, liquidity limits [difficulty trading the required quantity] and rejected orders. That is evidence of an exclusion; an unanswered question about another tool remains unknown.
The practical question is whether a provider can explain the setting and the resulting trade record for your intended rule. A profit chart alone does not answer it. We have not compared matching outputs and make no claim that the same written rule generates identical trades across these tools.
Access charges and the limits attached to them
Checked 14 October 2026. No purchase or account-access test was performed.
| Tool / product | Documented access / price | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|
| AlgoTest time-based backtests | 25 free backtests weekly, reset Monday. Detailed pricing lists ₹499 for 500 platform credits and 100 credits for 100 limited backtests. | Buying platform credits and activating backtesting products are separate steps. Tax inclusion unverified; unlimited-plan duration and credit quotes conflict. |
| Stockmock | Terms limit free credits to latest one month of data. Current paid backtesting bill not verified. | Do not substitute an analytics/simulator subscription for the multi-year backtesting plan. |
| Public Opstra | Options backtesting is marked Pro; public Pro ₹1,300/month or ₹11,000/year, each +18% GST. | Applies to public Opstra's EOD testing; OPTEST has a separate subscription. |
| OPTEST public introductory offer | Basic ₹0 with three daily backtests; monthly ₹499 +18% GST for 30 days; annual ₹4,999 +18% GST for 365 days. | Published offer checked 14 October 2026; eligibility and continuation are untested. Packages tied to brokerage accounts are separate. |
| Tradetron | All three checked pages now quote ₹20 per run or one credit. Community help uses a pack credit first, then ₹20 from the wallet. | Backtest page says up to five years per run; FastBT says full available six-plus-year history. Confirm the allowed window. Tax treatment unknown. |
| Streak | Exact backtesting price and account access not verified. | A title saying free or a third-party comparison does not establish free access for every account. |
Rows: AlgoTest: algo-free and algo-pricing; Stockmock: stock-terms (paid price unverified); Opstra: opstra; OPTEST: optest; Tradetron: tt-backtest, tt-fastbt and tt-charges; Streak: streak-disclosure (does not establish a price). Subscription tax quotes apply to those subscriptions.
Free backtesting needs a period and a product name
A free run count and a history window answer different questions. AlgoTest's general backtest-pricing help states a weekly allowance. Stockmock's terms instead restrict free-credit backtests to the latest month. OPTEST's public Basic card gives a daily run allowance and describes intraday and positional testing. None of these alone establishes every instrument, feature and history date available to a particular account.
AlgoTest's detailed pricing page distinguishes buying credits from spending them on backtesting products. It also gives inconsistent descriptions of monthly unlimited access, including 28-day and 30-day wording. The general backtest-pricing help lists 1,599 credits but later says 1,499 credits for the monthly plan. Its seven-day quote is 599 credits, while the detailed page says 499. These pages do not establish one consistent unlimited-plan offer; confirm its duration and credit cost before buying.
Tradetron's three checked pages now agree on a flat ₹20 run charge. Community help says this applies since 25 August 2026, with a pack credit used first and a wallet charge when none remains. The remaining difference concerns the test window: the backtest page says one run covers up to five years, while FastBT advertises the full available six-plus-year history. Confirm the window shown for your selected instrument and account. We have not bought credits or run a backtest to resolve that difference.
What a tool's result still needs to disclose
A history range for the actual instrument
Ask for the first and last usable dates and whether the chosen contract exists on each selected date. A broad multi-year headline does not establish uninterrupted coverage for every option.
The setting behind each deduction
Ask which brokerage and slippage inputs apply, and whether taxes and fees use one assumed rate or the rates that applied on each past date. A general statement that taxes are included does not establish this detail.
Past lot sizes and expiry dates
Ask how lot changes and ended or moved expiries are represented. A box for entering lot quantity or selecting an expiry does not prove automatic handling of past changes.
The meaning of an unavailable trade
Stockmock's terms explain that NA can mean the selected strike was not traded at entry time. Review the trade record and the provider's stated handling rather than replacing it with an invented fill.
The output you can retain
Confirm access to individual trade records and how long reports remain available before paying. Keep the written rule and settings with the output, so you can compare another run. Stockmock specifically says it does not save strategy results and each new run uses a credit.
Choose the documented features, then resolve the unknowns
If your rule needs intraday conditions, start by checking tools that describe intraday data and condition timing. If you need a positional EOD test, establish which contracts and costs it covers. If a signal on a share or index selects changing option contracts, confirm that exact option selection. A successful test on the share or index alone does not establish how the options would be selected.
Use the table to prepare questions for a provider. Ask about unknowns that matter to your rule before treating two reports as comparable. Save the answer with the plan name and check date, especially when pricing pages disagree. The trading charges changelog supplies the dated charge references for checking a tool's assumptions.
A small software comparison you could actually reproduce
- 1
Freeze the written rule
Specify instruments, option selection, dates, position size, entry, exit and condition timing. Keep the same rule while checking whether each tool can express it.
- 2
Record supported and unsupported settings
Save the plan, history dates, cost inputs and restrictions. If a required setting is unavailable or unknown, label that difference before comparing results.
- 3
Retain trade-level output
Compare the actual option contract and entry/exit records before comparing total profit. Keep unavailable trades marked as unavailable. This suggested comparison has not been run across the listed tools.
Keep software choice separate from reviewing real trades
For the broader reasons a test can differ from actual trading, use backtest versus live results. A separate Tradetron, Streak and AlgoTest comparison is planned for platform features beyond tests on past prices.
OneTradeJournal lets you manually record trades you actually took and why you took them. It has no backtesting, market replay, broker connection or automatic trade import. Keeping your reasons with each real trade supports later review, but the journal does not reproduce these tools or certify their reports. No strategy run, replay, account purchase or trading outcome was tested for this guide.
One published subscription quote, including its stated tax
This calculation uses OPTEST's public annual introductory offer, checked 14 October 2026. It applies the printed tax to the stated price. No checkout was completed.
- Annual basePublished 365-day offer.
- ₹4,999
- GST [tax on the subscription]Uses the tax treatment explicitly printed with this offer.
- ₹4,999 × 18% = ₹899.82
- Calculated amountExact paisa. This does not compare a 365-day plan with twelve 30-day plans or claim an annual saving.
- ₹4,999 + ₹899.82 = ₹5,898.82
